Friday in Paradise

This morning we awoke to a dark and drizzly day... much like the Oregon Coast. But, like I say, a rainy day in Hawaii (or at the coast) is better than a day almost anywhere else... so we made the most of it.

Dan has been suffering with a cold for the past few days, and today was the worst of it. Susan and I were happy to lay low and hang out at the condo for most of the day while Dan rested.

I had my second yoga lesson today. We practiced Sun Salutation and some other poses that I can't remember the names of, and discovered that I have "wonky feet" as Susan called them. I'll have to work on that.

After Susan's yoga class at Hanalei Yoga we all went to the Hanalei Gourmet for lunch, then back to the condo to rest in preparation for the evening ahead... the Luau!!

In all of the years they've been coming to Hawaii, Dan and Susan had never attended a Luau, so they decided that this was the year to break with tradition and do something "touristy". Much to everyone's delight, it was well done and very entertaining! The event started with a tour of the grounds and gardens of Smith's Tropical Paradise (Smith is the name of an old Kauai family that started out with a tour boat business over 50 years ago). Following the removal of the pig from the Imu pit we had a delicious Hawaiian buffet (or "trough" as Dan calls it) with plenty of Mai Thai's and other beverages included.

Speaking of Mai Thai's, several of you told me to, "have a Mai Thai for me while you're there" ... well, tonight I had a few on your behalf.
Mahalo (thank you)!

After dinner we took a stroll over to the "lagoon, outdoor amphitheater" for the evening's entertainment... Hula and other dances from all the Polynesian Islands that contribute to the history of Hawaii. Very entertaining!

So ends another day in paradise.
Aloha!
Gail

Hi Gail! What a lovely surprise to find your blog...I was wondering when you were leaving on your trip, and now I know! :) It looks beautiful. You looked positively gorked in that Mai Tai picture honey, LOL! Good thing you weren't driving! Meg and I went to breakfast yesterday and she walked all over the entire Target store before pooping out. She is starting to sound and act like her old self and I am so relieved! Merrily's visit really helped. I will look forward to more postings on your blog, so keep 'em coming! Take a swim for me, and would you bring me back a nice tan? Thanks! Lots of love, Christina-rina

I love the blog! Nice pics and it sounds like you are having a great time. I was thinking of you this morning as I was walking down the slushy sidewalk in my slippers after Bailey who took off when I was getting the newspaper. She was so excited that it was snowing she opted to have an adventure out the front door instead of the in backyard. At the corner I met up with my backyard neighbors returning from Starbucks who sent Bailey back my direction after commenting on my "nice outfit" (flannel PJ's and a long raincoat with a hood). The snow seems to be sticking so keep enjoying Hawaii while you can. XXOO, LuRae
